Pirjo Isokorpi joined Nextcon as a project management consultant in September. She has over 20 years of experience in software development and all aspects of product maintenance.
We asked Pirjo about career development, expectations and what motivates her at work.
First job in programming
Pirjo’s career started in 1979 after she graduated from the computer science department in Riihimäki. Her first job was as a programmer at Kunnallistiedo, a company serving municipalities and cities.
– At Kunnallistiedo, I gained over 20 years of experience in all aspects of software development and product maintenance, from programmer to product manager. During that time, Kunnallistieto became Novo Group Plc after a merger and name change. Alongside my work, I completed a degree as a computer engineer and a degree in computer science.
From wage employment to entrepreneurship
In 2000, after working as a salaried employee for a long time, Pirjo wanted to try her hand at entrepreneurship.
– In my own company, I provided IT services and worked as a project manager, specifier, trainer, test coordinator and tester, depending on the contracts. My clients were mainly municipalities, health care districts and the stock exchange (OMX).
– After a successful six-year entrepreneurial career, I found myself in a security-seeking mode again. I came across a job advertisement for a solution-oriented project manager at Tietokarhu, a company serving the tax administration. I started at Tietokarhu in May 2006 and worked there as a Project Manager until Tietokarhu’s closure in December 2020. Tietokarhu had a great story and was run down in an orderly manner.

Inspiring work with challenging tasks and a good team
Pirjo is inspired and motivated by challenging tasks that give her the opportunity to develop and grow while trying to do her job to the best of her ability.
– Working together is important to me, a team where everyone helps and supports each other to achieve the best possible result as a team. I am happy to help my colleagues, and I am happy to ask and clarify any questions that are not clear to me.
“Nextcon starts the fourth interesting phase of my professional life”
– Nextcon employs experienced professionals, so I believe I will be supported if I encounter challenging situations when working with a client where I feel insecure. On the other hand, what I have found during my short career at Nextcon is that we are allowed to work independently on client projects and assess the most appropriate way of approaching our tasks.
